About Us
Norfolk is one of the only cities in the state and the only city in Hampton Roads with an un-elected school board. Their budget spends our tax dollars and their policies control the future of our children. The people deserve the chance to elect its leadership.
Norfolk Citizens for an Elected School Board was created in the fall of 2011 to facilitate this change in every way possible. The process begins with the collection of signatures to place the question of whether or not to have an elected school board on the November 2012 ballot. State law requires that we obtain these from 10% of the registered voters in the city as of January 1st, 2012, which amounts to roughly 13,000. Our goal, however, is to gather at least 15,000 to ensure enough are verified as registered voters by the State Board of Elections.
Please, look around the our website and explore the arguments for and against an elected school board. We welcome your input and gladly accept any offers for help or advice. If you are passionate about helping the schools in Norfolk, this is your best chance to do it.
